LINEAGES

What is a spiritual lineage? It is a rope. A very old rope made strong by the consistent practices of the many through times of immense adversity as well as times of prosperity. It is something that binds to the universal wisdom that cannot be owned by anyone, One not defined by color, race, or even place, as lineages can spread, travel, perhaps move and relocate. A true lineage is built above all on love, and that is a connection the wisest and most profound form of love. All true lineages are children, children of the mother, we could say. The best any lineage can do is house the love and wisdom of the mother. We say next to every great man is a great woman. A great spiritual man is simply a vessel for the wise mother. And, of course, a great spiritual woman is also a vessel for the mother, as the mother is neither weak nor ignorant, nor incapable of anything

Lineages have people who rise to represent them. This comes through great tests and adversity. All lineages challenge those on the path of their worthiness to follow the wisdom of that lineage and not their own devices. Lineages destroy the egos of those who submit to them. We cannot hang on to lineage with our ego. It will not let us. If we are trying to take our ego with us, we are not tethered to a proper lineage. A lineage allows us to honor the work it takes to keep love and wisdom alive, a breathing living thing, not just an idea in a book or movie. We NEVER need to force our selves to follow a lineage. It is not a burden or demand. It is a rope falling from the sky tethered to the earth. It is up to us. A guru is someone who represents a lineage. All connections to true gurus and lineages can only be organic, never forced. They are what they are. They take us only where we ned to go or where we belong, never higher or lower. They connect to us as they do or they do not. To walk through the door way of a lineage is to walk through one more door to the same journey. A long walk up the same mountain. The heart is the way, and the lineage knows this is a tremendous challenge for anyone. If we should follow a different lineage this does not change the challenges or best practices to being human. They remain the same.

We all have gurus inside of us. There is nothing a true guru/teacher wants more than for another to find their own inner guru. Not everyone needs a physical guru, but for the spiritually committed and devout, it is a necessity in order to make sure we know where we sit in the grand scheme of life. It is always means to see that humans can house divine wisdom. If we never encounter a person capable of such a thing, how would we know? We are followers of wisdom, not creators of wisdom, even a guru. Everything good that comes to us is by the grace and work of others who have passed down what they have earned through their diligence and commitment. Yes, there are fake gurus. And there are people who may be wise but are not gurus, In the end, it is not for us to obsess about what is or is not a guru. We see what we see and feel what we feel. Maybe we just need a good teacher or mentor?

In this practice you may see a picture of my guru around. You may see what you see in this picture. Just an interesting looking guy in a robe, perhaps someone you would like to meet one day. Maybe nobody special. For me it is my connection to a spiritual family. My rope, My reminder I am small and just one of many, many people working to spread the wisdom I have been given to others. It binds me to a lineage that has been around for centuries, and to old souls that know timeless wisdom does not change. These are people who have sit with the richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor, people who have risen from the very bottom of the shadows of life through diligence, patience, and relentless pursuit of the the meaning of divine love and of wisdom.

We can take a drug, or perhaps sit in front of the ocean or under the stars, and we can feel a great sense of peace or expanded awareness, or perhaps a feeling of divine energy. Lineages are what make that energy human. What can bring that energy into a form that has meaning in our daily lives. So we can all feel divine things, but anything that profoundly guides us in how to live wisely is without question tied to a lineage. All wisdom is very, very old. People have not changed. Technology evolves, but people have been fundamentally the same for thousands of years and the keys to our happiness are the same. It’s not things. We have things because we need them to survive. Happiness does not come from just surviving. That is the torch of a lineage. The knowledge that the wisdom to living, the chemistry and alchemy of the human being is still the same as it was, and thus the wisdom of those who have sat on mountain tops is still every bit as timeless and relevant as it has always been.
